This started as an experiment to write ten poems a day. That clearly didn't last, but I'll still put up some words from time to time.

Some I will mean, and some I won't. None of these are finished. This is me, trying.

1.

The streets are riddled with rain

in each puddle a reflection-

a shimmering vision-

of what life looks like when clean.

2.

I am trying to write everyday

but sometimes I can’t find the words to say

All the things that are swirling inside

So instead I’ll just curl up and hide

(yeah…that was bad)

3.

Small, cramped

warm brick walls

the scent of grilled meat

and simmering beans

lunchtime laughter

makes it feel like fall

even if the weather

has other ideas

4.

Two people

Five degrees

Forty years

Four cities

Eight jobs

Two children

Two dogs

A cat

Turtles and frogs

Five fish

Hundreds of tears

Twice as many embraces

And always

Love

Which cannot be quantified

Love

Which makes numbers obsolete

5.

The sidewalks glitter

under the untied shoes

of janitors, nannies, and

off-duty doormen

All the regular people

that make the city run

have been run out of the city

to the shores of Staten Island

and far-away Brooklyn

soon these streets too

will be paved with gold

and all the good men and women gone

to…

6.

Stuff Stuff Stuff

Want Want Want

Never Enough

7.

Meet me at the St. Regis

in the King Cole Bar

We will sit and drink a sidecar

and pretend to be Very Important

The best things in life are free

The best things in life are fantasy

So let’s simply play awhile

while the day away awhile

Years from now

when children and the daily grind

have robbed us of our spontinaety

We will sit and drink a sidecar

and remember intrepid adventures

and nights at the King Cole Bar

8.

This is the life we live

whether we like it or not

9.
