This started as an experiment to write ten poems a day. That clearly didn't last, but I'll still put up some words from time to time.

Some I will mean, and some I won't. None of these are finished. This is me, trying.

1
Scribbling the afternoon away
watching little children play
In their eyes such simple joy
the entire world is their greatest toy
Their days are full of fascination
everything open to interpretation
Oh to have retained that marvel
and look on life as some great carnival

2
Wide-eyed
hair tied back
business suit
too-big pants
Playing dress up
for the corporate hacks
The world works
the world works workers over

4.
You make me feel
so much cooler
than I actually am.

5.
Blinded after having been kissed by life,
lips bruised by the weight of all that it carries
and all the blessings bestowed with breath.
The will to move is hampered by the inability to see,
the road ahead as it lies is full and laid with possibilities
and feet clumsily stumble over the smallest of steps.
If ever there were a challenge it is this—
there is no wonder in foresight, no charm in anamnesis
yet still we offer our lips to receive the touch of the unknown.

6
It’s a better ride
watching from the outside
uninvolved, disconnected
hovering neglected
It’s the ultimate deceit
a true and frightening conceit
That the lie is easy to conceive
And the truth too difficult to believe

7
“Tell me about yourself”
is less a request
for information
and more a
dismal provocation
No one really
wants to know
No one truly
wants to hear it
So the question
while parroted
again and again
can never truly
be answered.

8
Always getting stuck
in the same place
wheels churning
mind burning
with a thousand
warmed-over thoughts

9
I want to let you in
to surrender my heart
all the while guarding it
I want to be free with you
Let myself go
all the while holding back
I want to love with abandon
the way you first loved me

10
Leaves of green and gold
wave through the open window
come and enjoy fall

Ever present breezes
stir up hearts long-lost longings
flinging them skyward

A long nervous walk
casual glances sideways
new friends become more?
